A few weeks ago, Land O’Lakes invited me to participate in a webinar about their recipe development process and entertaining tips. Unfortunately, the webinar was held during the day when I was at work and I wasn’t able to attend the live event. They were nice enough to send me a recording though, so I was able to watch it later.
I finally got around to listening to it this week, and they had some really great tips! It was also great to hear about their recipe development process – learning how companies go about perfecting their recipes always fascinates me. Did you know that they put all of their recipes for baked goods through a “stress test” by slightly varying the ratio of wet to dry ingredients in order to ensure that the final product will still turn out if everyone doesn’t measure the exact same way? That seriously never even occurred to me! They have some awesome looking recipes in their database, so be sure to check it out!
The event was geared toward entertaining for the Superbowl (it took me a while to find the time to listen!) but the tips are pretty timeless and can work for any other times you might want to entertain. Like the Oscars this weekend, or Saint Patrick’s Day, or even just on a random Friday.
1. Keep it Simple:
I don’t entertain very often at all, and it can be pretty overwhelming because I have a tendency to want to make everything super fancy and perfect. That’s ok for a small dinner party, but for a larger, casual event there’s no need to stress so much! It’s perfectly fine to grab your favorite brand of hummus from the store (you know, the one you buy every week for yourself anyway?) instead of making it from scratch.
2. Think Ahead:
Think of foods that can be prepped ahead of time, so you don’t have to rush around at the last minute. For example, this pull apart party loaf can be prepped in the morning and baked just prior to serving. And these sweet and spicy almonds that I posted the other day can be prepared a few days in advance.
3. Sharing is Caring:
Pick up a few disposable plastic bins and pack them up for your guests before they leave. They’ll have a snack for the car ride home (or for the next day) and you won’t be tempted to eat all of the leftovers yourself!
As a thank you for listening to the webinar (really, I should be the one thanking them!) they also send me a great entertaining gift pack – and one to give away to one of you! In it, you’ll receive:
- A gorgeous Emile Henry Pizza Stone worth $50 (it’s coated to help prevent food from sticking and is the perfect size for a pizza for two – or a batch of cinnamon buns).
- A huge serving platter from Crate and Barrel worth $20. Seriously, this thing is massive. It’s perfect for cheese and fruit or for a selection of sandwiches.
- A coupon for some free Land O’Lakes deli cheese.
- An insulated grocery bag.
Enter using the Rafflecopter widget (you might need to wait a second for it to load) or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “Land O’Lakes Giveaway.” I’ll pick a winner next Thursday, February 28.
